Supply situation is becoming critical
Leading chip manufacturers are indicating a potential shortage of SSDs and DRAM.
The latest financial reports from various component suppliers paint a clear picture: The immense demand from data center providers significantly exceeds the currently available supply.
The situation is exacerbated by the fact that the three major market leaders – Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron – are strategically shifting their production capacities to meet the enormous DRAM demand from tech giants like NVIDIA and Meta, production capacities are being reallocated at the expense of NAND chips.
Schubert System Elektronik's view at the market
The following specific effects will emerge for the coming months and the year 2026:
DRAM Price Development: Chips and modules are experiencing a significant price increase. Furthermore, a market allocation process is expected in 2026.
SSDs and eMMC: Prices are also rising here, and delivery times may increase as production capacities have been reduced in favor of other technologies.
Daily prices are increasingly being applied to deliveries, making reliable price calculations and thus price stability virtually impossible.
Outlook: The market situation is not expected to ease until new production capacities become available from 2027 onwards.
One of our partners in the field of embedded computing, Micron, is currently expanding its manufacturing with new plants in the USA and Japan.
Forward-Looking Planning for 2026
The current market dynamics make close coordination in procurement planning more important than ever. Since manufacturers are increasingly allocating storage components based solely on existing orders,
early planning is key to success. We therefore recommend that our customers review their requirements for the coming year now.
Let's discuss your planned projects asap – by establishing specific demand plans, we can jointly set the course to ensure the best possible supply security for 2026 as well.
