Supply situation becomes increasingly critical
Leading chip manufacturers are warning of potential shortages in SSDs and DRAM. The latest financial reports from various component suppliers paint a clear picture: the enormous demand from data center providers is significantly exceeding currently available supply.
The situation is further intensified by the fact that the three major market leaders – Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron – are strategically reallocating their production capacities. In order to meet the massive DRAM demand from technology giants such as NVIDIA and Meta, production capacities are being shifted away from NAND chips.
Schubert System Elektronik’s assessment
According to our market analysis, the following developments are expected to have a concrete impact over the coming months and throughout 2026:
DRAM price development:
Chips and modules are experiencing significant price increases. In addition, a so-called “allocation” (restricted supply allocation) is expected in the market for 2026.
SSDs and eMMC:
Prices are also increasing in this segment, and delivery times may become longer as production capacities have been reduced in favor of other technologies. Daily pricing is increasingly being applied to deliveries, making reliable price calculations and therefore price stability almost impossible.
Outlook:
A stabilization of the market situation is not expected until new production capacities become available from 2027 onwards. One of our partners in the field of embedded computing, Micron, is currently expanding its manufacturing capabilities with new facilities in the USA and Japan.
Forward-looking planning for 2026
The current market dynamics make close coordination in procurement planning more important than ever. As manufacturers are increasingly allocating memory components only based on existing orders, early planning and forecasting are key factors for success.
We therefore recommend that our customers review their requirements for the coming year at an early stage. Let us discuss your planned projects with us in good time – through reliable planning, we can work together to set the right course and ensure the highest possible supply security for your projects in 2026.
